"Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822) was one of the major English Romantic poets and is widely considered to be among the finest lyric poets of the English language. He is perhaps most famous for such anthology pieces as Ozymandias, Ode to the West Wind, To a Skylark, and "The Masque of Anarchy." However, his major works were long visionary poems including Alastor, Adonais, Prometheus Unbound and the unfinished "The Triumph of Life." Shelley's unconventional life and uncompromising idealism, combined with his strong sceptical voice, made him a notorious and much denigrated figure in his own life. He became the idol of the next two or three generations of poets. He was also famous for his association with the contemporaries John Keats and Lord Byron. An untimely death at a young age was common to all three. He was married to the famous novelist Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein and is possibly responsible for the novel as well."
I love Ozymandias, over-familiar as it may have become:
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
